Introducing our new 5th Edition PAT testing department.

Our new 5th Edition PAT testing department has been added to the website with a range of 5th Edition labels which meet the current requirements for the code of practice which was introduced in September 2020.

Similarly, to the previous editions of PAT testing, the new code of practice offers instructions and guidance on how to maintain electrical equipment, furthermore, on how to test it, to ensure it is fit for practice. A key change to the code, is the inclusion of fixed electrical equipment, as an addition to portable equipment in previous editions. This change to mobility classifications brings a uniformed approach to all electrical testing, and although the term ‘PAT’ is still commonly used, it is no longer used in the code of practice.

Another change brought through the introduction of 5th Edition testing is an increase to the leakage limit which is usually carried out automatically on most modern PAT testing devices. The rise is to 5mA across the board, for both class I and II.

If you have been carrying out testing in accordance with the 4th edition regulations then there are no major changes, however, there are amendments to the guidance on the ‘earth continuity test’, along with the test procedures for ‘equipment with functional earth.’ These measures will prevent unnecessary failing of appliances.

How to stay compliant with the 5th edition of PAT testing.

  • Assess your electrical appliances and determine the frequency of testing required.
  • Ensure the work is carried out by a competent PAT tester following the guidelines from the code of practice.
  • Make sure the test and retest dates are visible on the labels to keep within the recommended testing window.

As with most of the available labels on PAT Labels Online, the 5th Edition range can be personalised with company details, an engineer name, dates and an appliance number of your choice.

Choose some of our brand-new 5th Edition PAT test labels to ensure you are adhering to the current code of practice guidelines.
